Visual Irony

NecronomiPhone 666: Who Will Save Your Soul
Who will save your soul when it comes to the flowers now
Huh huh who will save your soul after all the lies that you told, boy
And who will save your souls if you won't save your own?

—Jewel Kilcher

It’s no secret I’m an HP Lovecraft fan—the mythos so many writers play in much more than his bloviated text. I even named a series of phones the NecronomiPhone [variable here] in honor of the fictional text that underlies the mythos, The Necronomicon. So I had to share this lovely photo when the song came up randomly in my music rotation.

Brody!

Brody and Lee play in the floor. Brody wants to eat my hair.
Brody smiles in Suna's lap. Brody looks happy sitting in Suna’s lap during the ride home.

Today, Suna and I drove to Midlothian—a place I didn’t even know existed. There were no dragons, or even elves. But there was a nice lady who gave us a little bundle of joy.

Suna decided to name him Brody. It means “from a muddy place.” I figure that’s a great name for a dog that will grow up on a ranch.

Brody won’t replace Stella. He’ll be a completely different dog. Hopefully, he will speed the healing.

Peachtree Update

Antique kitchen appliances While looking for a gently used range for Peachtree, I found this classic full kitchen. Wonderful! It’s a steal at only $10-thousand. We're painting the trim red. We decided to paint the trim red. It fits the neighborhood, and I think it will “pop.”
Kitchen cabinets and window These cabinets will look great once all the crap is cleaned off and the sink is installed under the window.

The Peachtree project is coming along nicely. Demolition is complete. The popcorn is off the ceiling. The replacement stove is in the kitchen, and the new countertops and cabinets look superb.

Since Carol will list the property when it’s done, she came by to see the progress. She liked what she saw.

While we were thinking about what we wanted to do for lunch, she mentioned that Russell wanted her to go to an hour long presentation by a company called Fortunebuilders and asked if I wanted to go with her.

The hour long presentation turned out to be a two-hour pitch for a three-day event at the end of August. I was impressed and signed up for the three-day, as did Carol.

Fortunebuilders seems to focus on education in the real estate business. They introduced me to the concepts of wholesaling and reverse wholesaling in this event. They also have real systems that should take some of the load off of me. I have definitely turned this business into a full-time job. Maybe they can help me learn how to get back to enjoying my retirement.

Wholesaling
Getting a property under contract and selling that contract
Reverse wholesaling
Wholesaling to a known buyers list

I look forward to learning more in August.

Ranch House Update

vessel sink Yes, that’s labradorite on the countertop.
master bath All the sinks in the master bath now work, too.

We’re getting closer. We now have working plumbing in all three bathrooms. Suna picked a lovely vessel sink for her office bathroom and standard under-counter sinks for the guest room and the master bath.

We did have one more setback. The big wine refrigerator we ordered turned out to not be the one we got. The cabinet in the butler’s pantry (storm room) was designed for the original one.

Now we have to have the enclosure modified. The cabinet maker suggested making additional bottle storage. I can’t wait to see how he makes it work.

We got some new pictures of the puppy from the blue healer list. He’s growing and getting prettier by the day. Suna and I are both getting excited.

Cabinet Doors

A nearly complete kitchen. A nearly complete kitchen

The kitchen cabinets are being dressed out. It’s amazing how much better they look with doors. The bathroom cabinets are also being dressed. Soon we’ll have no more naked cabinets.

Soon I’ll be able to talk about backsplashes.

Happy Fourth of July!

Rose sits prettily Rose came to visit. Puppy face What a face!
4th decorations It’s a cheery entry, isn’t it? crop duster The local crop duster is fun to watch, but consequences…

Happy Fourth of July!

Crop dusting is a fact of life in rural areas. Somehow, it’s cheaper to dump chemicals out of an airplane that to spray them directly on crops from a tractor or something. I sure enjoy watching the arial acrobatics as that noisy yellow airplane does its thing.

Unfortunately, I’ve seen him overspray our place. I’ve seen him spray on days that were too windy to do so legally. The last time he was in the air, he did a pretty good job of doing what he was supposed to, but it rained. The runoff killed all the crawfish in our front pond—and maybe everything else except for some smelly algae that is clogging the over-fertilized pond.

A New Hope?

The woman from the blue healer group sent pictures of the puppies. She promised the female to a friend of her husband’s, but that leaves the male. She sent pictures. How could you not want to bring home a face like that?
